Student Experience of Instruction

The University of British Columbia values the quality of the teaching we offer to UBC students and requires student evaluation of teaching on a regular basis (with some exceptions, as defined by the policy in the Okanagan and policy in Vancouver). End-of-course student surveys provide the university community with information about student experience of their instruction at UBC.

For most courses, UBC has implemented a modular approach, where departments, faculties and the university can contribute evaluation questions.

SEI Dashboards

Note: the following interactive dashboards are accessible at UBC only (or via VPN).

Instructor Dashboard

The dashboards show the survey results of the university module items (UMI) calculated using the following metrics: Interpolated Median (IM), Percent Favorable (PF), and Dispersion Index (DI). In this dashboard instructors can access all survey results from 2018 to present, check their survey results in context with the campus aggregate, as well as have all their data in one place to compile their tenure and promotion files.

Academic Unit Dashboard

The dashboards show the survey results of the university module items (UMI) calculated using the following metrics: Interpolated Median (IM), Percent Favorable (PF), and Dispersion Index (DI). In this dashboard, deans and faculty administrators can access visualizations and data summary tables. The visualizations include scatter plots of their faculty members’ SEI results with faculty comparators, percent of surveys completed trend-line, and course-level SEI scores over time.

SAC Summary

The Senior Appointment Committee (SAC) dashboard provides an overview of instructors’ Interpolated Median and Percent Favorable with a departmental year level comparator. The dashboard is developed based on the SAC guidelines.
