What We Do
The Planning and Institutional Research Office (PAIR) provides leadership and direction to enhance the coordination of institutional data and analysis across the UBC system, providing optimal support to Faculties, UBC Executive and to external partners.
The four PAIR units work together leveraging data and analytics to guide university-wide planning and decision-making, to support integrated university planning, to strengthen student learning and experiences, to support faculty bargaining, and to promote a deeper understanding of the nature and quality of education at UBC.
The PAIR office supports academic and administrative planning and decision-making for UBC, including faculty collective bargaining. Data and analytic support are provided for enrolment planning and academic program reviews through online dashboards.
We research and report information about the university and its environment in support of key initiatives at UBC. The PAIR office is responsible for internal and external student surveys. We produce annual reports for the university community and accountability reporting to government.
The PAIR office adheres to the policies, procedures, and guidelines of data governance as outlined by the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and the Chief Data Officer (CDO).
The University has established a Survey Governance Committee to provide a consistent and coordinated approach in regards to Institutional Surveys to ensure meaningful and reliable results.
